Yes its virtual private network, hotspot shield is horrible and ddoser with five minutes can get passed it.

Your computer should have a VPN already, click on your wifi and then click dial up VPN and create your own. You have to dial it up again manually whenever you reboot your PC (works for windows 7 idk about 8).

No, a VPN is better. With a proxy server you always need thirdparty software. And EA_Sharks asked for a free VPN. Proxy server software is never free, and of they are, it's a trial or a virus.
