The flag on his jacket is the Confederate flag. The Confederate States of America owned the flag. (The U.S. was split in mid 1800s) The countries that joined the Confederates were Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and other southern states. They believed that black people should be put into slavery. That is why there are slave plantations in the southern states.
