SkyBlock No more limit for hoppers per island

I really do not like this update on SkyBlock.
The reason why I dislike this is because I tend to use a lot of hoppers per farm.
For my mob grinder I used more then two stacks of hoppers.
And I still have not finished making all my other automated farms. I still need to make my auto mushroom farm, my sugarcane farm and my cobblestone generator. In order for me to make those farms I need to be able place as many hoppers as I would like.

Yeah, it's limited to like 100 per island or something like that. I get the feeling it only recently came into effect though because I have almost 200 and can't even place anymore down, plus I don't want to break any existing hoppers in case I can't put those down again.

I'm assuming that the hoppers have been limited because if there's loads of them all carrying entities around then it could create lag (just theorising) but skyblock is a game mode with the least amount of lag machine threats in general (across all skyblock servers, there hasn't been a single threat on squadcraft's skyblock in all the time I've been playing on it) since people have to work even harder than in regular survival in order to get resources. My island is still incomplete, I still need to make my large scale ink and tree farms as well as making my mob farm more efficient, and I was going to increase the storage capacity of my egg and cobble farms. I need hoppers for all of these, and not just one hopper each. Wth multiple farms around producing and harvesting so many resources, I can't be at the collection points of all of these farms in order to gather up the resources before they despawn, even with my alt. Plus, it would be incredibly difficult to send all the resources from all my farms to one central collection point due to the design of my island and the high volume of resources being collected. I need to use a large amount of hoppers to make all of these farms as efficient as possible and to ensure high productivity.

I bet that the majority of the time, if a player wanted to create lag machines them they would use redstone rather that hoppers. Especially on a survival server since you can get more out of redstone than iron for hoppers both in terms of crafting for redstone equipment/hoppers and for use in redstone wiring/farm collection. And no, this is not an invitation to limit the amount of redstone.

I don't play any of the other servers, except Skywars, enough to know whether this limit is present across the entire server, but if it isn't then it's not fair to just introduce limits to skyblock. And no, not an invitation to limit the amount of hoppers on the other servers either.

Afaik, the amount of hoppers don't affect mob populations etc within a given area. Therefore if the amount of hoppers doesn't cause conflict with anything, then it's pointless to even have limits in the first place.

 

Lol, I remember when I had over 100 hoppers in my ink farm alone. Good thing I finished all of my auto farms before Surge decided to screw skyblock up

 

Apparently hoppers aren't the only things with limits on them. A whole bunch of my villagers just randomly entered love mode and anyone who is near (My alt at the time who was afk farming in this case)

Just when I was planning to build more iron farms to increase productivity as well. My 63 villagers are fine at the moment (No karma, this is not an invitation, stay away), but seriously? 15 villagers is pretty dumb.

How about we just get rid of all item and mob limits on Skyblock since it's highly unlikely that anyone will cause crazy lag from mass-breeding/mass-spawning. If anyone does, then it's their fault for doing it so let them take responsibility, and let them go ask someone to kill all their animals to fix it.

Oh, and also if you've exceeded the hopper limit and remove a hopper that was placed before the limit was in place, you can't put it back down...

By the look of things it's only to do with breeding though, it doesn't state anything about the use of spending loads of money on buying eggs. But I doubt I'm gonna be testing that for a while, and I'm not prepared to waste loads of money on buying them

 

Whilst there's an active thread about sb improvements up, how about getting Eggs available in Bulksell too...




Tried a few times but just got that when trying to add the eggs in the Bulksell menu.

bulksell seems to be the only addition to skyblock since the introduction of pets, which barely anyone actually uses. I thought you were the one who initially wanted bulksell on skyblock Vsteel

Since eggs is a pretty easy resource to gather in the masses once players have established a chicken farm so the fact that eggs can't be bulk sold isn't very good.

And he only free pet just teleports to you when it feels like it. You can't even ride it properly, on land it does nothing and in water it just does its own thing

Ik this stuff isn't relevant to the hopper limits, but I think it's fair to say that the majority of skyblock players would like at least one or more of these suggestions. Plus it makes the forums a bit tidier since all the suggestions are being added in to a single thread whilst there were separate discussions taking place on them. Not to mention a lot of the skyblock related threads have either been acknowledged and got old, or just got old and ignored without being acknowledged at all, so at least this way we can revive them at the same time without necro-posting.

(Assuming this is all allowed, apologies if not) Feel free to add any Skyblock suggestions on here, both old and future threads. I've probably missed some (excluding ancient suggestions). I've added Basil's suggestion thread but purposely didn't mention the Skyblock Reset suggestion because... reasons. Probably best that people who have given their opinions about big suggestions like that shouldn't express their opinion again since the discussion's already on that respective thread, unless any new skyblock players join the discussion (on here, or wherever) in which case we can express our opinions about their opinion. Unless people want to express their opinions of any of the suggestions on this thread to keep it updated in which case... If Skyblock resets and I lose my island then I'm probs gonna leave the skyblock server because I don't want to go through all the trouble of building everything from scratch. Enough said about that imo.

Yes, I know it's unlikely that these are gonna be looked into further/added/changed for a while, but might as well raise awareness of them.

with the small skyblock community at the moment you don't even need limits however if there were ten times the players with islands as big as some of yours on hoppers (at the quantity you use) would easily create lag without any lag machines to deal with this for now you could use item elevators and other means of item transport instead of hoppers and only have hoppers to fill chests. That is all I can suggest for now.

 

The issue is that item elevators keep the items exposed for a longer period of time and increases the chances of them being despawned before they find a hopper to go into. If I'd have known about the hopper limit sooner, I'd have tried to design all the farms so they're connected to a central collection point, as difficult as that would be for my island design at the moment. With the low player count on the entire server, I don't think there would be lag even if skyblock had the majority and if all players had loads of hoppers.

 

I completely agree however as Surge and only Surge has control of this and hasn't been seen since the 10th of July it is unlikely this will be fixed soon if at all

Suggestions:

- Remove the 100 hopper limit
- Remove the 15 villager breeding limit
- Add eggs to bulksell at Skyblock's shop

Oh, and perhaps check on what the askyblock guy said about my previous idea in relation to allowing/preventing visitors from picking up items on other people's islands.

 

There are now limits to how much hoppers you can place and villagers spawned etc... they are suggesting to remove that.

 

Oh, and whilst the thread's up, we'd be grateful if you could add ink and mushrooms to bulksell.

This isn't as important as a lot of the other improvements imo, but I thought I might as well mention that item frames are apparently limited to 30 per island as well. I'm not really in a position to test it for myself because of the old animal despawning glitch stealing all my cows and didn't really plan to have lots of time frames either.

 

Another update:

So I was doing some work on my island in the nether for the first time and not only did I notice that building in our nether islands affect our island's level, something which I was never told about until I discovered it, and also that since our nether islands are connected to our main islands it turns out that if you've exceeded the hopper limit on your island, then you can't put any hoppers down on your island OR your nether island. I know that farming in the nether is difficult at the moment anyway since you can't get water in the nether at all, but the fact that we can't use hoppers in the nether if we've exceeded the limit means farming the mobs at the top of the nether fortress is even harder. I'm assuming this means that all the other limits (i.e. villager breeding, item frames etc) applies in the nether too.

Yeah, Apparently the glitch also takes any entites like armor stands, which I use for the safety switch of my melon and pumpkin farm. So I'm assuming that it takes item frames and paintings too? I'm not sure though.

But it seems like since the glitch occurred the other day, that it's gonna be a regular thing again cause it just struck again earlier today...

 

It seems like as the glitch occurs more often, more and more islands are getting affected. So people who previously weren't affected by the first of this series of disappearances are starting to experience it. My automated Melon and Pumpkin farm depend on that armor stand. It's the easiest way that I can keep the farm automated whilst preventing the water from destroying the melon/pumpkin plants. I'd rather not waste my money to get a villager egg, which I'm not sure if anyone has actually tried using one after exceeding the villager breeding limit, to replace the armor stand. The villager could move around where it shouldn't go at the wrong time and cause issues. Inanimate moving objects are easier for the farm.

 

Heh I remember when I had a huge ass unlimited villager spawner, literally hundreds on hundreds of villagers. I couldn't go anywhere near them without crashing, and I swear when I got rid of it and all the villagers, skyblock was lag free for 15+ minutes (this was when skyblock was terribly terribly laggy)

Hehe, before the mobs started despawning, I used to lag like crazy whenever I went near my mob trap since it is so big. It was a pain when I fell down to it and died cause then I'd have to risk running in to get them back again. I had to keep relogging just to get a decent enough fps to be able to get away whilst the chunks were still reloading. Nowadays it's pretty empty, but I still want to make my upgrades to it in the hopes that I may actually be able to get some loot.

That place would have been a good pit to throw trolls in...

As difficult as it may be, perhaps it's worth trying to setup a log to track whenever the despawning glitch occurs to find out if there's a pattern. For example, the length of time in between when the glitches occur, whether there's any particular times that it occurs etc.

Also, not sure if this applies to every server with the plugin, since I don't play on most of them, but apparently the auction plugin doesn't exist anymore on skyblock, something else that's been left to the players to discover themselves.

First off, may I say that you're the owner of a server, and you should make the members and what they would like a priority. It's your server, I can't tell you what to do either, but I'm just suggesting if you're going to own a Minecraft server, maybe you should take more time and stop being lazy. I personally beleive that's why the server died so much. You're a good guy, but you need to put more time in.

Second off, this hopper/mob/etc. Limit is ridiculous. It takes the entire point away from mass-farms. I remember when I played, mass-farms were a huge way to make currency off the server. Please put these players suggestions into consideration. I think they have a very good point. Maybe just making it unlimited again like it used to be would help. I understand entities cause lag, but I'm pretty sure you have enough RAM on the server to hold more than 15 villagers... lol.

Speaking of the stuff suggested earlier in the thread, the animal despawning glitch has been reported on multiple occasions, and there has been an awareness of it for a while. Surge has tried looking into it on a few, rare occasions, yet the glitch still continues. Everyone's hard work trying to get animals on the islands just gets wasted right before their eyes and still nothing has been done about it. Skyblock may have regular players like myself who give surge an excuse to keep the server up, but it is really being neglected. New stuff gets added or changed to the server without anyone knowing and it's up to the players just to live with it which isn't right at all.

That's more realistic. I hope you're referring to both the hoppers and villagers when you mention said 'it' (not that I'm expecting to have 1000 villagers wandering around my island), and that you'll also be looking into the other points on the summary you requested.

i know that the entire squadcraft server is getting quieter recently, but any other skyblock players want to give any input about anything mentioned, like the proposed extension of the limits?

Eh, looks like none of the other skyblock players want to express their opinions rn, oh well.

Whether it's a complete removal of the villager/hopper limits (recommended), or extending them to the point that they won't need to be taken into consideration, it'd be great if the changes could be made asap. I just had to make a water elevator with IDKA (@iDontKnowAnymore) from the main level of my island (where the bedrock is) to the top of the island just to transport golems from a new iron farm I built into one that actually has hoppers at the end of it. If there wasn't a hopper limit, we wouldn't have needed to go through all that trouble.

 

I agree with Final, and although it was a little fun building it, we wouldn't have to do it if the hopper limit was removed.

What's easier? Building a slide that loops around a giant building that goes all the way up to your island just to go across it, using up a large amount of materials and supplies, or crafting hoppers and connect them to each farm.

Seriously, making mass producing farms is one of the only ways of making money here considering the very low prices at shop. To add a limit that's completely unnecessary is ridiculous. Even if it were to "reduce lag and entities" not many people come on here anymore. Not to mention building giant islands with farms the size of one floor. ( me )

In conclusion, the hopper limit should be removed, or changed to 1000, add eggs to bulk sell, possible improve on shop prices, remove the villager limit, and stop this animal despawning glitch.

A lot of the current limits & restrictions that we've requested to be removed are really hindering the progress of people's islands. We've put up with the limits for ages and tried our best to adapt to them, but it's time that something was done to fix them for good.

No wonder why people think that barely anyone plays on skyblock most of the time.

Not too sure if it's been mentiones yet or not, but the /auc plugin/system/command(s) got removed the other month and still haven't been returned...

Surge, not to be rude but, perhaps it would be best to fix the current issues on the server (Ie, everything on skyblock) before introducing a new system which opens the door for even more criticism (Acc, or whatever it's called, I don't play kitpvp enough to care). The only thing keeping skyblock alive are us, the people playing it, who have put in so much time and work on the server with our islands and into preventing it from being abandoned like various other sub-servers.

 

Aaand it turns out that you can't use Villager spawn eggs to create more villagers if you're over the limit.
