If it's something medical, then I'll probably help because I like medicine and it'll give me something to do. Old woman can't get up = medical. I'm doing it because it gives me something to do, not because I want to to comply with everybody's idea of morals. So wait a great action like is something acceptable but common decency not. For not example insulting someone out of nowhere which is extremely easy to do is not ok and you should consider insulting someone out of nowhere. In any case if someone gets into some sort situation where they need help badly like a skateboarding accident right in front of you. It is your duty to help them unless it is me I don't want you to hold saving my life as some sort of rhetoric against me.
I'll probably tell you you're an idiot while helping you. It's not my duty, it's a social expectation. It's a moral expectation. If it's bad enough, I'll probably help. But again, it's not a duty by any means. It's just what society expects of you. I mean, either way, you'd probably have to help because you'll look like an idiot standing there. It's going to be uncomfortable and awkward just standing there. Person won't stop yelling loudly so might as well do something. Also, if you help up an old lady, there's an added bonus. It's advantageous. Not to the old lady, but to you. If there happens to be any hot girls around you can increase your chances of getting laid. Finally, (last edit I'll make, morals are such a complex thing) I see you're really moral, but morals aren't always the answer to everything. If a patient is terminally ill and in severe level 10 pain, you're not going to waste your time giving the patient treatment which won't work, will you? Patient asks for assisted suicide. You can help them via euthanasia or lethal dose of morphine. You're not going to try and pep talk the patient and say "you can't give up, don't lose hope!", are you? The patient will die. Your mind shouldn't be clouded by morals at this moment. You should do what's best medically. Now say the patient is terminal but not in pain. At that point, you don't have to do anything (you can't really do anything) because the patient is still able to do things and have a good quality of life (unless of course, the patient can't bear the thought of impending death and asks for assisted suicide, then you can help).
Let's just get one thing out in the air that I'm pretty sure we are all thinking. ymy, while your moral standards are all fine and dandy, You shouldn't try to force them on others. I do what I think is right because I have morals, I don't need something to tell me to do the right thing because at that point it isn't of my own will and if I do the right thing because I believe a god would want me to do it, that would probably more of an insult to the person I'm helping because it is more of an obligation than free will.
