1. We live longer: Canadians born today will live an average of three years longer than Americans (81 years in Canada versus 78.7 south of the border). Not only that, the gap between life expectancy in the two countries is widening with each passing decade—it was less than a year in the late 1970s.

2. We’re more satisfied with our lives: According to the Better Life Index, an international quality of life comparison by the OECD each year, Canadians enjoy a higher level of life satisfactionthan Americans, scoring 7.4 out of 10, versus 7.0 in the U.S.

3. Saying “Sorry” is good for you: Canadians are mocked for always apologizing, but it’s not a character flaw. Saying sorry has been found to boost happiness and strengthen relationships. Researchers at the University of Waterloo even found apologizing to a cop when pulled over for speeding can get fines reduced an average of $51. True, scientists did recently claim that refusing to apologize for your actions leads to a sense of empowerment, but such short-sighted thinking would only appeal to self-centred Americans. (Sorry, that was mean.)


4. Our kids are all right: Canada’s schools take heat from all sides, but they must be doing something right. Our 15-year-olds routinely score in the top 10 of 65 countries that participate in the OECD’s reading, math and science tests. Last time around, in 2009, we were sixth, just behind Singapore and ahead of New Zealand. American teens? A lukewarm 17th. Ouch.

10) Poor kids are more likely to attend university or college here: By age 19 to 21 roughly 54 per cent of Canadian youth from low-income families are enrolled in post-secondary education, compared to just 30 per cent of the poorest youth in America. (11) We’re less prudish: An Angus Reid poll found 83 per cent of Canadians believe sex between an unmarried man and woman is acceptable, versus just 59 per cent of Americans.

And yes I did then go and completely ignore them and copied and pasted from Wikipedia. At least I was smart about it though, one of my friends kept the Wikipedia logo at the top of the printed pages he handed in, and said nah its all my own work when the teacher asked whether he 'cut' and pasted..

Was this thread even necessary? Just to show the down sides of a country and make it fall to some other country not that much different, yet not completely the same. Every country has it's flaws, not one single country is better nor perfect than the rest. I'll be honest, I find it utterly pathetic and offensive when someone tries to put down a country and stereotype it just because of it's bad habits and reputation. Epically a country with high diversity. Now, I do realize that the public school systems aren't the best, neither is the government or the obesity rate. But, I hate having to be insulted just because I'm from a country where the government can basically go haywire and ruin the it's country's history/rep. I have no control over what the gov. does neither do the people. Basically, just because I'm from the U.S. that doesn't mean at all that I'm obese, stupid, etc... quite frankly, I'm neither of those things. I take pride in what I do no matter if I'm from some place that has some bad habits.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to insult Robbin or anyone here, I'm not trying to sympathize the country or put it down for it's wrong doings. And I am certainly not as mad/offended as you may think. My point is, you shouldn't really blame this on everyone or try to flood a country with everything that it is the least amount superior or advanced with some other country that could have the same problems. Thing is, the U.S. has made/invented things that helped society and shaped it the way it was today. Such as, Google, YouTube, Airplanes, JavaScript, Virtual reality therapy, Rocket fuel etc....

 

I would try to make a smart comeback but I would rather not. But tbh was this really necessary? I could list many reasons US is better but im not.

Yah, I've only been to Canada once in my life. While I was there, it didn't seem that bad.
Anyways, if you ask me, America isn't as good as it used to be. Back when we had out early presidents, it seemed like a great country. Now, we've got a president that once went against the U.S. Constitution, idiots that know more about celebraties than our country's history, and tons of teenage boys that would rather sit in their rooms playing xbox 360 than actually studying. Also, here's a little fun fact! Did you know in the state of Illinois you have to take three test about your country where if you don't pass, guess what, you can't get move on to the next grade. Meh, I don't blame the state for making this decision. You gotta learn about it one way or another.

 

Actually, so far the only "non-corrupt" presidents were basically cheated our of their presidency. Such as JFK. He was a non corrupt pres, but he was "coincidently" assassinated. And notice how ones the corrupt ones have either not been assassinated or have been president for long periods of time.

What I mean by no control is that the government may always be corrupt, regardless of which president. And if there is a non-corrupted president, he may not last that long.

America is a country where you can be locked up and tortured for years because you are from the middle east. Its a place where black kids get shot by policemen, because they are black. Where war is considered "Noble" instead of "Terrible" and veterans are called "Heroes" instead of "Murderers". Its a terrible country.

I have to say America isn't let's say as ordinary.There are tons of drugs compared to other big countries where it is very rare, a lot of people drink way too much alcohol and people are having so many parties at a young age where they didn't even fully develop their genetials yet, and a lot of underage sex.Also the people for example let's say in a talkshow they don't act as ordinary they seem like let's say crazy for example Miley Cyrus?Such weird, crazy people(no offence).The Goverment/NSA spy on your phone calls and Messages to other people= No real Privacy.The Goverment hides so many things from you.I heard that people can play video games on their phone and computers while they work?Also, many people skip school which nobody does here in Europe?Another Point is that teachers have sex with students? I mean seriously...Just got passed on #2 with the fat people thing...America isn't the best country in the world....America only got earlier advanced in technology because In World War 2 jewish people from all over Europe fleed to America, and they took all the knowledge with them.I put together some true Facts:
Highest poverty rate of any "developed" country.
One of the highest if not the highest crime rate of any "developed" country
Death penalty still allowed.That really shouldn't be a thing anymore in the 21st Century.
There are 8 guns for every 10 people, explains all the murders..
Lots of racism and financial segregation.
Many people eat junk food, explains why they're fat.
Tons of Racism towards black people, they should be treated the same as others.
Now I will pull up a list why Europe is safer and better than America.

Europeans walk and bike more
European football is the most popular sport and american Sports like american football and baseball aren't really played much around the world.
The food: Americans don't have a variety to eat mainly food that makes you fat like Pizza, hotdogs, buritos where here, we cook tons of different food.
Finally US exists cause of Europe. Give come credit to the ancestors...

According to *scientific fact, England is the best country.

A lot of Americans, Canadians etc make stereotypical jokes about English people. Out of all the countries, they pick England. Why? So they feel good about themselves.

A lot of immigrants migrate to England. Why? Because we are the best. They don't try to go to another country, just England. Mexicans can just cross the boarder to the US. Instead, some make it harder for themselves and try to get into England.

We are smart people.

So, every country should compete against each other just for a list? UK is right behind US with obesity. As for food, there are sorts of food from all over the world can be found in the US. Not just fast and unhealthy foods. Some of the best schools and hospitals are located in the the US. The racism in some countries like North Korea makes the racism in the US look like nothing. Guns are illegal, unless you have a permit, which lots of people don't have.

Thing is, most people who happen to hate on the US don't even remotely know what is going on in the county itself. I'm not trying to argue or hate, I just wanted to state a few things.
