I recently upgraded to Windows 10 and my mic stopped working. I have to put the mic in my mouth and scream to get it to recognize any sound. Now, I think it's a problem with my audio drivers but my sister has the same problem and she's on Windows 8.1 (I never had this problem on Windows 8.1). I have Realtek if that's helpful. I have tried deleting and reinstalling my audio driver but that didn't seem to help. The occurs with all mics, the one built into my laptop and the one in my headset. All my audio drivers are up to date, I confirmed that. There is no problem with the speakers, only the mic. Here's a pic of my audio settings: Please help! Thanks.
This was happening to me when I upgraded to Windows 8 aswell. I don't really remember how I fixed it but, I tried a few different things. Deleting and re-installing the Audio seemed to work well for me, but not for you. I'm thinking it may just be a problem with your actually microphone? But it is pretty weird how you just upgraded to Windows 10 and it stopped working. It could just be a coincidence but I really doubt that. I'll try to think of some ways to help.
I had an issue with my mic a few weeks back. It wouldn't recognise any sound, no one could hear me speak, nothing. I tried practically everything you could think of; changing connection ports, cleaning the cords, messing with the audio programs, etc. Turned out that the mic was disconnected from the headset by the tiniest amount. It might be relevant to you, might not. It's either your computer or your computers connection ports for microphones.
I searched up the problem and found this. I don't know if this is the problem you're talking about, but here. This issue might be because of settings related to Microphone. The issue cab be resolved by making Microphone as the default device and updating the sound card drivers. Make sure that the Microphone is not disabled and is set as default. Make sure that the microphone that you are using is not disabled and is set as default in the computer. Follow these steps to check this: a) Right click on the volume icon and select “Recording devices”. b) Now, right click on an empty space and select, “Show disconnected devices” and “Show disabled devices”. c) Select “Microphone” and click on “Properties” and make sure that the microphone is enabled. d) You may also check if the microphone that you are using is set as default. You can also refer to the following link, which has troubleshooting related to “No Sound”. No sound in Windows (Steps referred in the following link are applicable to Windows 10 Technical Preview as well). http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/...1&v2h=win7tab1&v3h=winvistatab1&v4h=winxptab1 Hope this helps. Let me know if you doesn't work or something.
Window 10 made my alienware a paper weight. Hence why I haven't been in game these past couple of days.
This happens because of a bug with Cortana and microphones, both internal and external. Here are a few things you can try: Open your speaker settings and go to 'Recording Devices'. Right click a blank space and choose 'Show Disconnected Devices' and 'Show Disabled Devices'. If your mic shows up there, enable it. If that didn't work, look at your microphone's properties and and click the microphone enhancements tab. Try choosing 'acoustic echo cancellation' and 'adaptive noise reduction'. You can also go to the advanced tab in your microphone settings and check that the two options below 'Exclusive Mode' are enabled. If they are already enabled, try to disable them and see what happens. Finally, you can try going to the search Cortana box and and type in 'Cortana Settings'. Once you see the menu, go to the 'Hey Cortana' section and enable 'Let Cortana Respond to Hey Cortana'. Some people say this works. Hope this helps! Good luck.
If those four didn't work, try disabling any effects on your microphone settings and see what happens.
It's not a problem with my mic, it happens with four different ones. It's an issue with my audio drivers.
Are the drivers from Microsoft or the mic manufacturers? It could be that this is an issue on Microsoft's part and they screwed lots of people over.
Drivers are Realtek. Btw, the mic I'm currently using is the one built into my laptop beside the webcam.
There is no microsoft driver. I deleted the Realtek one yesterday and all it did is disable my speakers.
Nvm. Gonna go out on a limb here. You might have the mics and drivers but it might not be 'set up' on the new Windows OS Go to the Control Panel Go to ease of access Choose speech recognition Click set up microphone Follow the directions from the setup wizard If you were able to successfully record yourself, go to: C:\Users\username\Documents\Sound\recording Hopefully this helps. If not, I tried. Good luck!
I tried that a few days ago but it didn't work. I'll do it again and tell you the error. OKAY I THINK THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN CAUSED BY CORTANA (which doesn't make sense since it happens to my sister on Win8)
Did your sister recently upgrade to Windows 8? Cos most of the time, issues start to happen because of upgrades.
No, she's using the OS her PC came with. The microphone was almost in my mouth and I still got these results.
I found out it wasn't working while skyping Puk. She turned her volume up all the way and could barely hear me. It was like I was talking normally, but standing 30 feet away.
It most likely is Cortana. Windows 10 changed a lot of their audio coding (probs for Cortana), which might have conflicted with Realtek drivers. Try rolling back to an older driver which will still work. Also, plug in just the mic. Does Windows detect just the mic or both mic and headset?
I mean the other mics, not the built in one silly cx You'll have to try and roll back manually. Uninstall the driver and find an older but still compatible version online.
Actually doubt it was Cortana now. Realtek driver 6.0.1.7535 is actually a faulty driver and Microsoft is aware of this. Check if your sister has the same version, that'll confirm. A roll back should do. If for any reason, you can also wait for a new driver to come out.
Jace, all they do is post the most simple no-brainer ideas. You get further to the solution with third parties than with Microsoft lol
@EA_Sharks , you might be having a big problem here. Since win10 just released there are no actual solutions online and without phisically inspecting the pc, I can only give advice: -back-up important files and reinstall Windows 10. Maybe there was a slight failure with your sound drivers when installing( when you have solid internet) -Go to the website of your microphone brand, most likely they have solutions ready already prepared. -Wait. This is actually the best option. That is why I wait with upgrading to win10 until its stable and has multiple versions to fall back to when my stuff doesn't work on it. Hope this helps, Apollo
I use a Dell laptop currently. However, whenever I get on ts, ppl say that my mic always ends up echoing -_-.
