Everyone would be crowding towards the back of the theater, crushing others and trying to hide. That's just one reason why it wouldn't happen. Here's another:

Theoretically your idea has a chance of working, but it also has equal chance of collapsing entirely and getting even more people killed. Practically, it would never work.
