A data center is a building that is designed to house servers. Date are usually located close to global internet lines, this reduces ping for everyone using those servers. Ping is the measurement of time, in thousands of a second, it takes from a signal to get from origin to destination. A datacenter usually has back up power, super massive air conditioning, and extreme electric infrastructure. The data center provides 3 things in exchange for money. Physical space, kinda like renting a room. Electricity, for the server. And internet. Servers are measured in racks. A cabinet holds 42 ranks. Each rack is designated by a U. So it would be 42U. A cabinet costs $850-$1350. a half cabinet or 20U costs $600-$700. A quarter cabinet costs up to $300 for 10U. So basically, we are paying 275 dollars a month, to power six computers. Our six computers can hold 20,000 players online, and hundreds of different servers. So deleting any single server doesn't save any money. Although we should probably delete mcmmo lol. I'm posting this because I get this suggestion to delete servers to save money almost every day. The server expanses are as follows $275 for 10 quarter cabinet collocation. $50 ddos protection $17 buycraft $25 multicraft. in other news /shop arrived in fac2, and stackable pots are removed from fac2. as they were causing a dupe glitch with /shop.
If there's any talk about removing servers, then personally I'd say to keep the unique servers and remove any duplicates servers (ie have just 1 factions server and get rid of all the others and remove 1 of the kitpvp servers). MCMMO can go as well, I have no idea what it's about and it just seems like another factions server with a few extra plugins to me. The rest of the servers can stay. Skyblock, Prison, Factions and Creative are fine because they're not dependent on pvp and therefore can be played by just 1 person (I know that raiding is a theme in factions but it isn't just about fighting other factions, it's also about developing your own faction). Competitive servers like Skywars, HG and KitPvP which are dependent on players fighting each other need work on promoting more players, without having random players joining other sub-servers and saying 'everyone go join (server)'. Of the 3 competitive servers, most people play kitpvp mainly because it's pretty much all about direct pvp, whereas skyblock is more strategic and hg is direct pvp but on a larger area to run around in. The only way one of the necessary faction servers (either fac/fac2, hcf, factionsob, mcmmo) can be made useful is if they become a regular survival, PvE (Player vs Environment) server rather than PvP.
I vote for HCF, Factions OB, McMMO, Kit PvP2, HG, and SW to be removed. As nobody plays them, and haven't really played them the entire time they've been out. Excluding McMMO, HG, and SW as those were large in Old Squad.
I'd say to keep Kitpvp1 (Kitpvp) and remove Kitpvp2 because the original has more to offer in terms of kits and maps (as far as I'm aware, then again I could be wrong since I don't play Kitpvp at all. Perhaps someone could make a poll so that we can all decide on which Kitpvp server should stay and which should go.
Kitpvp 1 and 2 both have the downfalls. Kitpvp has too many kits and warps + there is the falling through the floor. Plus the hit registration isn't 100% great. However, Kitpvp 2 may have a smaller amount of kits but some are too overpowered when they have upgrades and it is unbalanced. There was something else but I forgot.
